Shawarma originated in the Levant region, including Lebanon, Syria, and Turkey, with its name derived from the Turkish word "çevirme," meaning "turning." This reflects its unique cooking method, where marinated meat is stacked on a vertical rotisserie and slowly roasted for rich flavor. Over time, different regions have added their own twists, using various spices, sauces, and accompaniments like tahini and pickles. Today, shawarma remains a globally loved dish.
